1980. Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back
Premiered.
December 8, 1980. John Lennon is shot and killed.
At the age of 40, John Lennon, returning with Yoko Ono to
their Dakota apartment in New York City, was shot by Mark
David Chapman, a fan to whom he'd given an autograph earlier
that day.

April 1981. Raiders of the Lost Ark Premiered.
Raiders of the Lost Ark, directed by Steven Spielberg and
starring Harrison Ford, was the top grossing movie at 242,374,454.

May 11, 1981 - Bob Marley dies!
Bob Marley dies of cancer at the age of 36.

1981 - The President is Shot!
President Reagan waves to the crowd moments before his assailant
strikes.
John W. Hinckley, Jr. 25, shoots the President and three others
in the attack.

as the top show on television.
July 29, 1981. Prince Charles Marries Lady Diana
Prince Charles marries 19-year old Lady Diana in St Paul's
Cathedral and was watched by 750 million people worldwide.

January 25, 1981 Iranian Hostages Released
The 52 Iranian hostages were released after 444 days of
imprisonment. It was the same day of Ronald Reagan's first
inauguration.

April 12, 1981. The first space
shuttle is launched.
The first space shuttle, Columbia, was launched on April
12, 1981. It became the world's first spacecraft to land from
orbit for reuse when it touched down at Edwards Air Force Base
in California. |
